How we test
Every Lady Fiddle review is based on real, hands-on use — not a spec sheet, not a press release. Here's exactly how a product goes from bought-and-tested to written up, so you know what our recommendations are actually worth.
Our one promise: we test the products, we live with them, and we only share what we genuinely believe is worth your time and money — including the honest downsides.
Our process
- 1
We buy it ourselves
Almost everything we review is bought with our own money, the same way you would. We're not sent a shelf of freebies to gush over, and a brand can't pay for a good score. When something was gifted, we say so in the review.
- 2
We actually live with it
Every product is used for a real stretch of time before a word is written — usually weeks, often months. Sunscreen gets worn every morning; a tumbler gets carried every day; activewear comes to real gym sessions and real hikes. You can see the exact testing period at the top of each review.
- 3
We research the facts
Beyond the hands-on experience, we look up the things you can't feel from daily use — materials, filters, certifications, dimensions, safety. Those come from the manufacturer and reputable retailers, and we keep them in a separate “The specs” section so you can tell experience from fact at a glance.
- 4
We tell you the downsides
Every review names at least one honest negative. Nothing is perfect, and a review that only lists positives is an advert. If a product only suits certain people — dry skin, not oily; essentials, not everything — we say exactly who it’s wrong for.
- 5
We only recommend what earns it
We recommend a product when we’d genuinely spend our own money on it again and put our name to it with a friend. If it’s not worth your money, we’ll say that too.
Two layers in every review
We deliberately keep two things separate, because mixing them is how reviews mislead you:
My experience
The first-person, lived-in part — how it feels, what's great, what annoys. This is only ever the reviewer's own real use. We never invent experience we didn't have.
The facts
The researched, verifiable part — materials, filters, dimensions, safety, certifications. We look these up and state them precisely. We won't write "chemical-free" (everything is chemicals); we'll tell you exactly what it's free from instead.
Independence & affiliate links
Lady Fiddle earns commission through affiliate links, including as an Amazon Associate — if you buy through our links we may earn a little, at no extra cost to you. That never changes a score or a verdict. We recommend a product because we'd buy it again ourselves, not because of a commission, and we keep the honest negatives in whether they're convenient or not. You can read the full affiliate disclosure any time.
